Salem Days!

Every year in the first and second week of August in the wonderful place of Salem Utah is the town celebration called Salem Days. The name is rather unique, wouldn't you agree? I absolutely love this time because there are all sorts of memories with my family and friends during the festivities. This year it was just a couple friends and my parents that I got to have fun with. Which was okay, I really had fun. :) Saturday, the last day of the week of festivities is pretty much the most important day and the longest day too. This year I ran in the 5k and actually did pretty well for a first timer and without having trained for it. I came in 146th out of 199 overall and in my age division came in 17th out of 28. So not too shabby. It really peaked my interest in running in more races and actually training and everything. If I could swim at all and could actually get myself to learn, I would work my way up to a triathalon but I think the farthest I would ever go is a marathon. But that's good enough for me! :) That day I also went to the parade, walked around all the booths in the park with Taylor and Michelle and then played soccer with Taylor and Aaron, came home and took a quick nap, went back to play ultimate frizbee with them and then came back to go with my parents to the pageant show thing and then FIREWORKS! I am a huge advocate of the watching of the Salem Day's fireworks. I've been a lot of different places in the state and country and even out of country to see plenty of other fireworks displays and I still stand by the ones here in good ol' Salem. Haha, all bias opionions aside this is absolute truth. I decided that I'm going to donate to the fund for this awesome event when I have a good income again because it's just awesome. In times past I've been in the pageant show thing and the parade, so I know how much work goes into it and it's incredible how much the community works together for something so simple yet so pleasing. The word Salem means "city of peace" in hebrew, and it's so true. :)

P.S.

I just realized that I forgot to mention that the guy that is moving to Utah soon is NOT that one guy I talked about in previous entries. That one guy is long gone history and I am soooo thankful. It's amazing how some things (or people) can be so seemingly harmless and actually the perfect addition to your life...and then the wolf in sheep's clothing makes itself known and all hell breaks loose. I had to go through some crap to get to the awesome stuff, and it seems like that's a recurring story of mine. I've DECIDED, however, to make the CHOICE to do the absolute best I can to completely avoid the unecessary crap and just go straight for the awesome stuff. I realize that a lot of not fun stuff happens in life anyway but why just go with the flow of stuff that in all honesty really doesn't have to happen??
At any rate, this friend of mine that's moving to Utah is really awesome and I can hardly wait to get to know him better and create new memories. We've known each other since 9th grade but have only been around each other twice - when we first met before he had to catch the buss after school and then a few years (he had moved away in 9th grade) later when he came back to visit during Christmas time. But we talk almost non stop now and I really appreciate his friendship. :)

Things And Such

It is 4 in the morning and I'm sitting here eating a cheese quesadilla thinking about all the crazy things in life. Which is rather awesome. Haha. I went to the bridal shower for one of my best childhood friends tonight, and it was sooo amazing seeing the glow she had when talking about her husband to be. It was really fun seeing a lot of old friends too. Swapping stories and different things. :) Although, I had way too much sugar while I was there, bleh. So now I'm trying to balance it out with salty, protein stuff. Anyway...my life since the last entry basically consists of job hunting, talking with a special someone A LOT and waiting for the first part of october when he'll move to Utah, and chilling with my family and sometimes friends. I'm working on a lot of random projects and things, some lucrative and some service oriented. I love it. :) One of my brothers and his wife and little girl are all officially moved and settled in Cincinnatti Ohio now and I'm super happy that they're progressing in life and everything but I'm still ultra sad that they're so far away. My family is everything to me and though I don't always show it, I would do anything for any one of my family members. They are the world to me. :) Another thing I've been doing a lot of lately is packing and moving and babysitting. There was the brother moving to Ohio and then another of my three brothers and his wife and baby girl moved from downtown Salt Lake to Sugarhouse. Haha so while I would love to see my other brother and his wife and 4 girls move into a house, I really hope it's not for at least a few months. All of this has taught me to not have so much crap and to try not to move very much in my life if I can at all help it. Which is funny, because I love change and traveling and moving just as much as I love stability.
